Elsmere is a small place in Nebraska, United States. It is known as an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and buildings that does not have its own local government like a city or town. Elsmere is located in the southeastern part of Cherry County. It is southeast of Valentine, which is the main town in Cherry County. Elsmere is about 2,687 feet (819 meters) above sea level.
History
Elsmere opened its own post office in 1899. A post office is a place where people can send and receive mail. This post office served the community for many years. It closed down in 1992. People believe Elsmere was named after a famous book. The book was called Robert Elsmere. It was written by Mrs. Humphry Ward.
Education
For a long time, Elsmere had its own school. It was called Elsmere Public School. However, in 2006, this school joined a larger school system. Now, students from Elsmere attend schools run by the Valentine Community Schools in Valentine.
