Elwyn Brook-Jones (born December 11, 1911 – died September 4, 1962) was a British actor. He performed in plays, movies, and television shows during his career. He was also a talented pianist.
Elwyn Brook-Jones: Early Life and Career
Elwyn Brook-Jones was born on December 11, 1911, in Kuching, Sarawak, which is on the island of Borneo. After going to a private school, he studied at Jesus College, Oxford University in England.
He started performing at a very young age. When he was just 11 years old, he played the piano in a concert in Australia! Later, he performed in special shows called 'cabarets' in places like the United States and Asia.
Elwyn Brook-Jones became a repertory actor. This means he worked with a theater company that performed many different plays. He first appeared on stage in London in 1943 in a play called Hedda Gabler. After that, he acted in many shows in London's famous West End theater district, as well as in films and on television.
Famous Roles in Film and TV
Elwyn Brook-Jones was known for several interesting roles. In the BBC children's TV series Garry Halliday, he played the villain known as "The Voice." This was a big role where he was the main opponent of the hero.
He also had important parts in movies. One of his most well-known film roles was playing Tober in the 1947 movie Odd Man Out, directed by Carol Reed. He also appeared as Gladwin in The Small Back Room (1949) and played the Emir in The Pure Hell of St Trinian's (1960).
Elwyn Brook-Jones passed away in Reading, Berkshire, England, on September 4, 1962, when he was 50 years old.
