The Embassy of Slovakia in London is like Slovakia's special office in the United Kingdom. It helps connect the two countries. This embassy is located in a cool building in Kensington Palace Gardens. It even shares the building with the Embassy of the Czech Republic.

What is an Embassy?

An embassy is a special place where a country's representatives work. They are called diplomats. Their main job is to help their home country and its citizens. They also work to build good relationships with the country they are in. For example, the Slovak Embassy helps Slovak citizens in the UK. It also works to keep Slovakia and the UK friendly.

The Slovak Embassy in London

The Slovak Embassy is found in a fancy part of London. It is at the corner of Kensington Palace Gardens and Bayswater Road. This area is known for its beautiful buildings and gardens. The embassy building itself is quite unique.

A Special Building

The building where the Slovak Embassy is located has an interesting history. It was built in 1965. Three talented architects designed it: Jan Bočan, Jan Šrámek, and Karel Štěpánský. They were from a group called Beta Prague Project Institute. Their design was so good that it won an award. The Royal Institute of British Architects gave them an award. It was for the best building in the UK designed by foreign architects.

Sharing the Space

Before 1993, Slovakia and the Czech Republic were one country called Czechoslovakia. The building was originally the Embassy of Czechoslovakia. In 1993, Czechoslovakia split into two separate countries. These were Slovakia and the Czech Republic. After the split, the building was divided. Now, both the Slovak and Czech embassies share the same special building.
