Emiliano Rodríguez (born June 10, 1937) is a famous Spanish basketball player who retired from the sport. He is known as one of the greatest European basketball players of all time. He was even named one of FIBA's 50 Greatest Players in 1991. FIBA is the International Basketball Federation, which is like the world governing body for basketball.

In 2007, he was added to the FIBA Hall of Fame, which is a special place for basketball legends. A year later, in 2008, Rodríguez was chosen as one of the 50 Greatest EuroLeague Contributors. This means he was one of the top 50 people who helped make the EuroLeague (Europe's biggest club basketball competition) what it is today.

Emiliano's Club Career

Emiliano Rodríguez played for two main basketball clubs during his career. He started with a team called Aismalíbar from 1958 to 1960.

Playing for Real Madrid

After two years, he joined Real Madrid, one of the most famous sports clubs in the world. He played for Real Madrid from 1960 until he retired in 1973.

Winning Championships with Real Madrid

With Real Madrid, Emiliano Rodríguez won many important titles:

  • He won the FIBA European Champions' Cup four times. This competition is now called the EuroLeague and is the top club basketball tournament in Europe. He won in 1964, 1965, 1967, and 1968.
  • He helped Real Madrid win the Spanish League title an amazing 12 times! These wins happened between 1961 and 1973.
  • He also won the Spanish Cup nine times with Real Madrid.
  • Emiliano was the top scorer in the Spanish League in both 1963 and 1964. This means he scored more points than any other player in the league during those years.

Emiliano's National Team Career

Emiliano Rodríguez also played a lot for the senior Spain national basketball team. He played in 175 games for his country.

Playing in the Olympics

He represented Spain in the 1960 Summer Olympics and the 1968 Summer Olympic Games. Playing in the Olympics is a huge honor for any athlete.
