Emiliano Rodríguez, born on June 10, 1937, is a famous Spanish basketball player. He is now retired from playing. Many people consider him one of the best players ever.
In 1991, he was named one of the "FIBA's 50 Greatest Players." FIBA is the International Basketball Federation. Later, in 2007, he was honored by being added to the FIBA Hall of Fame. In 2008, he was also recognized as one of the "50 Greatest EuroLeague Contributors." This shows how important he was to European basketball.
Playing for Clubs
Emiliano Rodríguez played for two main basketball clubs. From 1958 to 1960, he played for a team called Aismalíbar. After that, he joined Real Madrid in 1960. He stayed with Real Madrid until he retired in 1973.
Real Madrid Success
With Real Madrid, Emiliano Rodríguez achieved amazing success. He helped his team win the FIBA European Champions' Cups four times. These wins happened in 1964, 1965, 1967, and 1968. The EuroLeague is one of the biggest basketball competitions in Europe.
He also led Real Madrid to win the Spanish League title 12 times. These wins were almost every year from 1961 to 1973. On top of that, his team won the Spanish Cup nine times. He was also the top scorer in the Spanish League in both 1963 and 1964.
Playing for Spain
Emiliano Rodríguez was a key player for the senior Spain national basketball team. He played in 175 games for his country. He represented Spain in two Olympic Games. These were the 1960 Summer Olympics and the 1968 Summer Olympic Games.
He also played in seven EuroBasket tournaments. These are European basketball championships. He played in 1959, 1961, 1963, 1965, 1967, 1969, and 1971. In the 1963 EuroBasket, he was even named the tournament's Most Valuable Player (MVP). This means he was considered the best player in the whole competition.
