Early Racing Days
Emilio Alzamora started his racing journey in the 80cc class. When he was just 16 years old, in 1989, he won the 80cc championship in Catalunya, Spain. This early success showed his talent and passion for motorcycle racing.
Grand Prix Debut and Challenges
In 1994, Emilio made his first appearance in Grand Prix racing. He joined the 125cc class, which is for lighter motorcycles. He was part of a team led by Paolo Pileri, a former world champion himself.
After a few years, in 1997, Emilio moved up to the faster 250cc class. However, that season was tough for him because of injuries. Due to these challenges, he decided to return to the 125cc class.
Becoming a World Champion
The year 1999 was Emilio Alzamora's most memorable season. He won the 125cc world championship without winning any races. Instead, he consistently finished on the podium, which means he placed in the top three. He earned 10 podium finishes that year! This strategy helped him beat other strong riders like Marco Melandri and Masao Azuma, who each won five races but didn't score enough points overall.
Emilio continued to race until the 2003 season. Over his career, he competed in 144 races, achieved 4 race wins, and stood on the podium 30 times.
Life After Racing
Since 2005, Emilio Alzamora has been the director of the Monlau Competición technical school. This school helps train young riders and engineers. He also manages motorcycle racing projects, guiding new talent from the very beginning up to the Moto3 World Championship level. He is involved with the Team Estrella Galicia 0,0, helping to shape the next generation of racing stars.
