Emilio Tuñón Álvarez (born on January 1, 1959, in Madrid) is a well-known Spanish architect. He is famous for designing many important buildings. In 2014, his architecture firm, Mansilla + Tuñón Architects, received a special award called the Gold Medal of Merit in the Fine Arts (Spain) from the Spanish Ministry of Culture. This award recognizes great achievements in art.
Emilio Tuñón studied architecture at the ETSAM School of Architecture, graduating in 1981. He later earned his PhD in 1998. Early in his career, he worked for the Fine Arts Cultural Department in 1982 and the Architecture Public Works and Urban Planning Department in 1983. For ten years, until 1992, he worked in the office of another famous Spanish architect, Rafael Moneo. In 1992, Emilio Tuñón and Luis Moreno Mansilla started their own architecture company, called Mansilla + Tuñón Architects.
Emilio Tuñón is a professor at ETSAM, where he teaches architectural design. He has also been a visiting professor at many universities around the world. These include Harvard University, Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, and schools in Frankfurt, Navarra, Barcelona, and Puerto Rico.
