Emily Anne Theophila, Lady Clive Bayley (born Metcalfe; 1830–1911) was an English writer. She wrote about her own memories. In 1844, her father sent her a special book with pictures. He had asked artists to create this book. Today, this book is kept at the British Museum. A book of Emily's own memories was published in 1980. It was edited by M. M. Kaye and called The Golden Calm. This book shared Emily's life in India.

Emily Bayley: A Life of Memories
Early Life and Family
Emily Annie Theophila Metcalfe was born in 1830. Her parents were Grace (born Clarke) and Sir Thomas Metcalfe, 4th Baronet. Her father was a British government worker in India. He was known as the British Resident, which was like being an ambassador. Emily was born in India. However, she grew up in England. When she was seventeen, she went back to Delhi to live with her father.
The Special Delhi Book
Emily's father had built two homes called Metcalfe House in Delhi. He also created a special book for her. This book is known as the Delhi Book. He sent it to her in 1844 while she was still in England. The book stayed with her family after she passed away in 1911. Later, it was found by Lt.-Col. John Mildmay Ricketts.
The book that was published in 1980 was based on Emily's father's notes. It also included paintings he had ordered. This original book is now in the British Museum. Emily Bayley added her own stories to these notes. A popular writer named M. M. Kaye then put it all together into a modern book.
Marriage and Later Years
In 1850, Emily married Edward Clive Bayley. He received a special honor in 1877. He became a Knight Commander of the Order of the Star of India. After this, Emily became known as "Lady Clive Bayley." They had a large family. They had one son and seven daughters. One of their daughters, Georgiana, became a writer. She also helped women get a better education in London.
A Passion for Coins
Emily Bayley enjoyed collecting coins. In 1889, she sold 75 Indian copper coins to the British Museum.
