Emma Beach Thayer was born in New York City in 1849. She was the daughter of Moses S. Beach and Chloe Buckingham.
She is recognized for creating detailed studies for a famous book. This book was called Concealing Coloration in the Animal Kingdom. It showed how animals use their colors to hide in nature. Her artwork helped illustrate these ideas.
One of her paintings, from 1904, is called The Cotton-Tail Rabbit among Dry Grasses and Leaves. You can find this painting in the collection of the Brooklyn Museum.
Emma Beach Thayer was married to another painter, Abbott Handerson Thayer. She was also the stepmother to his son, Gerald Handerson Thayer, who also became a painter.
Emma Beach Thayer passed away in Peekskill, New York in 1924.
