Emma's Early Dance Steps

Emma Portner started dancing when she was just three years old in Ottawa, Ontario. She trained at a competitive dance studio. During her summers, she danced with The National Ballet of Canada. While in Ottawa, she also attended Canterbury High School's special arts program for dance.

When she was 17, Emma moved from Ottawa to New York City. She went to The Ailey School to train more. However, she left after five months to begin her professional dance career.

In 2019, Emma was nominated for "Best Female Dancer" by the Arena Dance Competition. Paper magazine also named her one of "100 people to watch in 2019." Emma has been featured on the covers of Dance Spirit and Dance Magazine.

By 2020, Emma's work had been shown in many places. This includes projects for Apple, Netflix, Vogue magazine, and Sony Pictures. She has also worked on late-night television shows and for professional ballet companies.

Emma has directed movement for indie music stars like Blood Orange, Maggie Rogers, Half Alive, and BANKS. She has performed at famous venues. These include the Guggenheim Museum, Jacob's Pillow, and the Oslo Opera House.
