Empress Chung (also known as Wanghu simcheong in Korean) is an animated movie from 2005. It was made by both North and South Korea. The film was directed by Nelson Shin. Sadly, this movie is now considered a lost film. This means it is very hard to find or watch today.
The Story of Empress Chung
This animated adventure movie is based on a very old and famous Korean folk tale. It tells the story of a kind daughter named Chung. She makes a huge sacrifice to help her blind father. Chung hopes her actions will help him see again.
Why the Movie is Lost
After Empress Chung was first released, it was shown only a few times in Europe. The movie was never released for people to watch at home. This means it never came out on DVD or other formats. Because of this, the movie is now considered lost.
Today, the only things you can find online about the movie are its trailer. There are also some sound tests and a few pictures. You might also find a collection of children's books based on the story.
Some people think the movie might have been released on DVD in North Korea. However, there is no strong proof of this. So, we can't be sure if a North Korean DVD really exists.
