After a short time working at the Estonian Agricultural Academy, Ene-Margit Tiit returned to the University of Tartu. She became a teacher and researcher there. Her work focused on different areas. Ene-Margit Tiit started the Department of Mathematical Statistics at the university. She was also its first regular professor. Ene-Margit Tiit became its first president.
