England Hill is a small community in Boyd County, Kentucky, USA. It's not officially a city or town, which means it's an unincorporated community. You can find it right next to the Big Sandy River and along a smaller stream called Paddle Creek. It's also very close to the city of Catlettsburg. A major road, U.S. Route 23, runs nearby. This road used to be called Mayo Trail, but a new path for U.S. 23 was built in 1963, going around England Hill.

About England Hill
England Hill is very connected to the city of Catlettsburg. For many years, the community has worked to stay independent. This means they have often disagreed with Catlettsburg trying to make England Hill part of its city.
Community Services
The people of England Hill are protected by their own fire department. The England Hill Volunteer Fire Department started in 1977. Even though it's a separate community, England Hill uses the same postal code as Catlettsburg.
Hyland Heights Subdivision
A part of England Hill is known as Hyland Heights. This area was once a large dairy farm called Hyland Dairy Farm. In the 1960s, the farm was sold. Its land was then divided into smaller pieces and sold for building homes. Many new families moved here during the 1960s and 1970s. Some of these families came from Catlettsburg. They moved because of big road projects that changed U.S. Route 23 in Catlettsburg.
Local Schools
For many years, children in England Hill went to the England Hill School. Later, this school was renamed Cooper School. It taught students from kindergarten up to eighth grade, and then later up to sixth grade. Cooper School was open for 26 years, from 1962 to 1988. After 1988, students started going to nearby Catlettsburg or Durbin elementary schools. Which school they attended depended on where their homes were located.
Staying Independent
England Hill is like a neighborhood just outside Catlettsburg. The community has often worked to avoid becoming part of Catlettsburg. A notable time this happened was in 1987. Catlettsburg tried to include England Hill and all areas north of I-64 into its city limits.
