English Bar was once a small place, or settlement, located in Plumas County, California. It's not there anymore as a town, which is why it's called a former settlement.
What Was English Bar?
English Bar was a place where people used to live and work. It was likely a small community, perhaps a mining camp or a stop along a travel route, that no longer exists as an active town today. Many such settlements appeared and disappeared during California's early history, especially during the California Gold Rush.
Where Was It Located?
English Bar was found in the beautiful state of California. It was specifically in Plumas County, which is known for its mountains and rivers. The settlement was situated right on the Middle Fork of the Feather River.
High Up in the Mountains
This former settlement was quite high up! It lay at an elevation of 3,963 feet (which is about 1,208 meters) above sea level. To give you an idea, that's higher than many tall buildings. It was also located about 8 miles (or 13 kilometers) southeast of a town called Quincy.
