Early Career and Teaching

Enrique García Asensio became a very important teacher in 1970. He was made a Professor of Orchestral Conducting at the Madrid Royal Conservatory. This is a famous music school where he taught students how to lead orchestras.

Leading the RTVE Orchestra

Besides teaching, Asensio was also the main conductor for the Spanish Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra (RTVE). He led this orchestra for many years. His first time was from 1966 to 1984. He returned to lead them again from 1998 to 2001.

Important Performances and Roles

In 1997, Enrique García Asensio made a big decision. He chose to focus on conducting the RTVE orchestra. He had to leave his teaching job at the Madrid Royal Conservatory because of a rule about public jobs.

Conducting Across Spain

Asensio continued to lead many orchestras. In 1999, he conducted the Euskadi Symphony Orchestra. This was at a special event called the Week of Religious Music in Cuenca. The next year, in 2000, he led the RTVE Orchestra again. This time it was for the exciting reopening of the Kursaal Centre in San Sebastián.

Leading the Municipal Symphonic Band

Enrique García Asensio also held another important position. He was the Principal Conductor and Music Director of the Municipal Symphonic Band of Madrid. He led this band for 16 years. He stepped down from this role in October 2012.
