Enterprise, Linn County, Missouri facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Enterprise is a small community located in the northern part of Linn County, Missouri. It's known as an "unincorporated community." This means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own official city government or mayor. Instead, it's part of the larger county's administration.

Where is Enterprise Located?

You can find Enterprise about one mile south of the line that separates Linn County from Sullivan County, Missouri. It's also about four miles east of a town called Browning, Missouri. Small streams, which are like tiny rivers, flow near the community. These streams are part of a larger waterway called Long Branch.

A Look at Enterprise's Past

The area we now call Enterprise had a different name long ago. It was first known as Northcutt. This name came from B. F. Northcutt, who owned the land where the community was planned. This planning, called "platting," happened in the late 1850s.

For a while, the community also had another name, "Rodney." A post office was opened in Northcutt in 1858. Later, its name was changed to Rodney. However, the post office eventually closed its doors in 1902.
