History of Browning
Browning was officially started in 1872. It was named after the family of J. A. Browning, who worked for the railroad. A post office opened in Browning the very next year, in 1873.
Where is Browning Located?
Browning is found right on the border between Linn and Sullivan counties. It sits along Missouri Route 5. If you travel south from Browning, you'll reach Purdin. If you go north, you'll find Milan.
A stream called Locust Creek flows along the west side of the city. A railroad, the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad, also passes through Browning. The city covers a total area of about 1.35 square kilometers (0.52 square miles), and all of it is land.
