Ephraim Island is a special place on the Gold Coast in Australia. It's not a natural island, but one that was created for people to live on. It's known for its fancy homes and apartments. The island is located in the Gold Coast Broadwater, which is a large water area. It's connected to the mainland by a long bridge, about 400 metres long.

Exploring Ephraim Island
Ephraim Island is a unique residential area. It was built as a joint project between two companies, Lewis Land and Mirvac. The island covers about 9.6 hectares. Before it was developed, this area was mostly covered by mangrove trees.
What Makes Ephraim Island Special?
If you look at Ephraim Island from above, it looks a bit like a backwards letter "e". The island is split into two main parts. The southern part, which is like the "tail" of the "e", is mostly undeveloped. It has natural salt mud-lands.
The northern part, which is the "eye" of the island, is where all the buildings are. This area has a marina, which is a place for boats. There are also 12 large apartment buildings, with the tallest one being 11 stories high. You can also find about 30 separate beach houses here. These homes are designed so that every apartment has a view of the water. The marina can hold up to 115 boats.
How Ephraim Island Was Built
The land for Ephraim Island was prepared a long time before construction started. Locals remember that the area had no trees or plants as early as 1992. This was because there were some discussions and challenges from people in the community about the development.
In 2003, the developers, Mirvac and Lewisland, got permission from the Gold Coast City Council. They then began building the island. At one point, this was the biggest home construction project in Queensland. Even with all the building, 20% of the island's natural environment was kept safe. The entire project was finished by the middle of 2008.
Ephraim Island in Film
Ephraim Island has even been featured in a movie! Some parts of the film Jucy, which came out in 2010, were filmed on the island.
