Ephrem Marie M'Bom (born July 18, 1954 – died September 20, 2020) was a professional footballer from Cameroon. He was a talented defender who played for the Cameroon national football team, even competing in the famous 1982 FIFA World Cup.
Playing for Clubs
Ephrem M'Bom started his football journey in 1973 with a team called Rail FC in Douala. Back then, he played as an attacking player, trying to score goals. In 1975, he changed his position to a leftback. This meant his main job was to stop the other team from scoring. He played as a defender for several clubs, including Eclair Douala, Léopard Douala, Canon Yaoundé, and Dragon Yaoundé. He played until he retired in 1989.
People nicknamed him Wire because he was very slender. He was a very successful player with the club Canon Yaoundé. With them, he won five league titles, which means his team was the best in Cameroon five times! He also helped them win two African Champions Cups and one African Cup Winners' Cup. These are big tournaments for the best teams in Africa.
Playing for His Country
Ephrem M'Bom also played many games for the Cameroon national football team. He was part of the team that played in the 1982 African Cup of Nations finals. This is a big tournament where African countries compete to be the best.
He also proudly represented Cameroon at the 1982 FIFA World Cup. This is the biggest football tournament in the world, where countries from all over compete!
Later Life
After he stopped playing football, Ephrem M'Bom worked for the national railway company in Cameroon. He passed away on September 20, 2020, when he was 66 years old. He died from a tumor in his leg.
