Eraring is a small place in New South Wales, Australia. It is a suburb of the City of Lake Macquarie. You can find Eraring on the western side of Lake Macquarie. It is also located north of the town of Morisset.
Eraring's Story: A Look at Its Past
The name "Eraring" comes from the Aboriginal language. It means "that which gleams or glitters." This name gives us a hint about the area's natural beauty.
For a while, Eraring was called Newport. People hoped a port would be built there, but it never happened. Some farming started in the area during those early days.
A public school opened in Eraring in 1924. It helped educate the local children for many years. However, the school closed down in 2015 because there were not enough students.
The Eraring Power Station
A very important landmark in the area is the Eraring Power Station. Building this large power station began in 1975. It was finished and started working in 1984. The power station provides electricity to many homes and businesses. Most of the people who work at the power station live in nearby towns, not directly in Eraring itself.
