Eric Dewayne July (born April 17, 1990) is an American musician, YouTuber, and comic book writer. He is also known as a commentator who shares his views on politics and culture.

In 2022, Eric July started his own company called Rippaverse Comics. He is the founder and main writer for this independent comic book publisher. His goal was to create a place for new and different stories in the entertainment world, giving creators more freedom. The first comic series from Rippaverse, called Isom, was very popular and sold millions of copies in advance. Eric July sees Rippaverse as a fresh choice compared to bigger comic companies, focusing on artists owning their work and stories that fans want to read.

Besides his work in comics, Eric July is the lead singer for the rap metal band BackWordz. Their music has strong instrumentals and lyrics that talk about ideas like individual freedom and smaller government. He also contributes to Blaze Media and has a popular YouTube channel. On his channel, he talks about cultural trends, money matters, and how media is presented, often from a perspective that values individual liberty. Earlier in his career, July was the lead singer for the band Fire from the Gods before starting his own businesses, making music, and working in media.

Early Life and Education

Eric July was born in Dallas, Texas, and grew up in a neighborhood called Oak Cliff. When he was young, his parents separated. As a teenager, he faced some challenges and was sent to live with his grandmother in Arkansas.

Later, he moved back to Dallas. He was a talented track athlete but had trouble in high school. After a close call and the loss of a friend, July decided to change his path. He earned a scholarship for track and field and attended the University of Memphis. He later studied communications at Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi. During this time, he began to explore new ideas about politics, especially by reading works from economists like Thomas Sowell and Walter Williams. He moved back to Dallas in 2015.

Music Journey

Eric July started his music career in Corpus Christi, performing under the name YG Ripple. He became involved in the hardcore metal music scene there. At first, he played keyboards, but then he became the vocalist for the band Fire from the Gods.

In late 2014, he formed his current band, BackWordz, where he is also the lead singer. In 2016, BackWordz signed with Stay Sick Recordings, a record label owned by Chris Fronzak. The band described their style as a libertarian version of Rage Against the Machine, known for their strong messages and energetic music.

Comic Book Creations

In July 2022, Eric July launched his new company, Rippaverse Comics. He started an online campaign to sell his first comic book project, Isom, along with other merchandise. The campaign was a huge success! It quickly went past its first goal of $100,000, raising $1.7 million in just a few weeks. By the end of July, it had raised $3 million.

In May 2023, Rippaverse Comics announced more exciting comics coming soon. These included Isom #2, Alphacore by Chuck Dixon, and Yaira by Jen and Sylvia Soska. The company's third comic book campaign for Goodyng, written by Mike Baron, also raised a significant amount of money.

Community Involvement

Eric July was involved in campaigning for Barack Obama in 2008. However, he now describes his political views as focused on individual freedom and critical thinking. He helped start a group called Minorities Seeking Solutions. This group aims to connect with young black males and help them feel more empowered. He also shares his opinions as a contributor for the Blaze TV network.
