Eric T. Washington (born December 2, 1953) is an important judge in Washington, D.C. He is currently a Senior Judge on the District of Columbia Court of Appeals. This court is like the highest court for local cases in Washington, D.C.
Judge Washington was first chosen to be a judge on this court in 1999 by President Bill Clinton. Later, he became the Chief Judge of the court, which means he was the main leader. He held this important role from 2005 to 2017.

Early Life and Education
Eric T. Washington was born in Jersey City, New Jersey, in 1953. He grew up in New Jersey.
He went to Tufts University and finished his studies there in 1976. After that, he studied law at Columbia University School of Law, getting his law degree in 1979.
A Career in Law and Justice
After law school, Eric Washington started his career working for a law firm in Houston, Texas. He helped people with work-related legal issues. Later, he moved to Washington, D.C., to work for a U.S. Congressman.
He then worked for the District of Columbia's legal department, helping the city with its laws. In 1990, he became a partner at a law firm called Hogan & Hartson.
Becoming a Judge
In 1995, Eric Washington became a judge for the first time. He was appointed to the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. This court handles many different types of cases.
As a judge in the Superior Court, he heard cases about people who broke laws. He also handled cases that involved children who needed protection.
Leading the Court of Appeals
In 1999, President Bill Clinton chose Eric Washington to be a judge on the District of Columbia Court of Appeals. This is a higher court that reviews decisions made by other courts.
From 2005 to 2017, Judge Washington served as the Chief Judge of this court. This meant he was in charge of the court and helped make sure justice was served fairly.
Community Involvement
Beyond his work in the courts, Judge Washington has also been involved in many community groups. He has helped with committees that work to make sure everyone has fair access to the courts.
He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Washington. This organization helps young people in the community. He also helps lead other groups focused on science and technology in the legal system.
