Erica Renee Thomas, born on August 12, 1987, is an American politician and a leader for young people. She served as a State Representative for Georgia's District 39 from 2015 to 2023. Erica Thomas also started a group called Speak Out Loud. This group helps foster children share their thoughts and feelings. In 2016, she was honored as a "Nonprofit Leader" and received the "30 under 30 Award" from the Georgia Center for Nonprofits.

Early Life and School

Erica Thomas was born in Fayetteville, North Carolina. She grew up in Knoxville, Tennessee. For her high school education, she attended Carter High School and Cocke County High School. Later, she went to college at Oakwood University.

Erica Thomas's Career

Serving in Government

Erica Thomas first learned about how the government works by helping the previous representative for House District 39. She was a Legislative Aide. In 2014, when that representative decided to run for a different job, Erica Thomas ran for the same position. She won the election and became a State Representative. She served two terms in this role. During her time in office, she worked on several important committees. These included committees for Retirement, Budget and Fiscal Policy, Juvenile Justice, and Science and Technology.

In 2015, Erica Thomas was a special guest speaker. She spoke at the Black Business Empowerment Convention of Georgia.

Erica Thomas started a local non-profit group called Speak Out Loud. This group works to give a voice to foster children. It helps them express themselves and be heard.
