Demerick Montae "Erick" Strickland (born November 25, 1973) is an American former professional basketball player. He played in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for nine seasons. Erick was known for playing as a point guard or shooting guard.

Erick Strickland's Early Life and College Career
Erick Strickland was born in Opelika, Alabama. He went to Bellevue West High School in Bellevue, Nebraska. After high school, he played college basketball at the University of Nebraska from 1992 to 1996. He was a fantastic player in high school. He became the 2nd highest scorer ever for Class A Nebraska basketball. In college, he was named the Big Eight Freshman of the Year in 1993. He also won the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award in the 1996 National Invitation Tournament (NIT).
Erick Strickland's NBA Journey
Even though Erick Strickland was not chosen in the 1996 NBA draft, he joined the Dallas Mavericks as a free agent. This means a team signed him even though he wasn't drafted. He played four seasons with the Mavericks. In 1999, he had his best year, scoring 12.8 points per game.
After playing for the Mavericks, Erick joined several other NBA teams. He played for the New York Knicks, Vancouver Grizzlies, Boston Celtics, Indiana Pacers, and Milwaukee Bucks. Over his nine years in the NBA, he averaged 7.5 points per game. He also had 2.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game.
Beyond Basketball: A Baseball Player Too!
Did you know Erick Strickland also played baseball? He spent two seasons playing minor league baseball. In 1992, he played for the Gulf Coast Marlins in the Gulf Coast League. The next year, 1993, he played for the Elmira Pioneers in the New York–Penn League. Even though he was two years younger than most players in his league in 1993, he was a great player. He led his team in triples. He also finished second in stolen bases and bases on balls (walks).
