Erik Robert Fleming was born on February 2, 1965. He is an American politician. He served in the Mississippi House of Representatives. This is a group of elected officials who make laws for the state of Mississippi.

Fleming represented the 72nd District from 1999 to 2008. This district includes parts of Hinds and Madison counties. He also ran twice for a U.S. Senate seat for Mississippi. He was the candidate for the Democratic Party. After his time in the House, Erik worked for the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) in Mississippi. Erik Fleming is married to Linda Pritchett. She is a Councilwoman in South Fulton, Georgia. He has one son named Sean Christopher. Erik is a Christian. He has been a member of many important groups. His Political Journey

Erik Fleming was first elected to the Mississippi House of Representatives in January 1999. This was a special election to fill a seat that became empty. He took over from Tomie Green. He served the 72nd District until 2008. In 2007, he lost his re-election bid to Kimberly Campbell. She then took his place in January 2008.

Fleming also ran for a U.S. Senate seat in 2006. He ran against the person already holding the seat, Trent Lott. In the Democratic primary election, Fleming got the most votes. He then won a runoff election against Bill Bowlin. However, he lost to Senator Lott in the main election.

In 2008, Fleming ran for the U.S. Senate again. He won the Democratic primary. Then he faced Senator Thad Cochran in the November 2008 election. Senator Cochran won that election.

Erik Fleming has held several leadership roles in politics. He was the President of the Young Democrats of Mississippi from 1991 to 1992. He also led the Hinds County Democratic Executive Committee from 1996 to 1999. He worked as a campaign manager for Henry J. Kirksey when he ran for Mayor in 1993.

Before his time as a lawmaker, Fleming worked in different roles. He was a paralegal for a group that helps immigrants. He also worked as an educator for a non-profit group. Later, he was the chief operating officer for New Horizon Ministries, Inc. This is another non-profit group in Jackson.
