Starting the Maserati Company
Ernesto was one of the key people behind the Maserati company. While his brothers were serving in World War I, Ernesto took charge of the workshop. He helped build some of the earliest and most famous Maserati cars.
A Champion Racer
Ernesto wasn't just an engineer; he was also a talented race car driver! He began his racing career in 1924. He won the Italian drivers championship in 1927, driving a special car called the Maserati Tipo 26. He won again in 1930 with the Tipo 8C-2500. Imagine driving those powerful cars!
Leading the Company
After his brother Alfieri passed away in 1932, Ernesto took on even more responsibility. He became the director, the main engineer, and even the only racing driver for the company. He truly led Maserati during this time.
New Adventures: O.S.C.A.
In 1937, the Maserati company was sold to Adolfo Orsi. However, the Maserati brothers stayed on to help for ten more years. Ernesto even helped design the Maserati A6 after World War II. In 1947, Ernesto left with Ettore and Bindo to start their own new car company called O.S.C.A..
Later Life
Ernesto Maserati passed away in Bologna in 1975. He left behind a great legacy in the world of cars and racing.
