Ernst Albrecht von Eberstein (born June 6, 1605, in Gehofen – died June 9, 1676, in Sangerhausen) was a brave German army commander. He became a Field Marshal for Saxony and was also a special knight in Denmark, receiving the Order of the Elephant.

His Life and Military Career
Early Years and First Battles
Ernst Albrecht von Eberstein was the son of Wolf Dietrich von Eberstein and Elisabeth von Lauterbach. When he was young, he joined the army of his uncle. His uncle fought for the Dutch Republic. Ernst Albrecht was even present at the famous Battle of White Mountain in 1620.
Fighting in the Thirty Years' War
From 1623 to 1648, Ernst Albrecht fought in the Thirty Years' War. This was a very long and important war in Europe. He fought for different armies during this time. First, he was with General Tilly's army. Later, he fought for Sweden, then for William V, Landgrave of Hesse-Kassel, and again for Sweden. Finally, he fought for George II, Landgrave of Hesse-Darmstadt. In March 1648, he was promoted to Lieutenant Field Marshal. This was a very high rank in the army.
After the War and Danish Service
After the Thirty Years' War ended, Ernst Albrecht retired to his home in Gehofen. But in 1657, he traveled to Denmark. He went there to help Denmark in the Second Northern War against Sweden. In November 1659, he and another commander named Hans Schack won a very important battle. This was the Battle of Nyborg against the Swedes. Because of this great victory, he was given the Order of the Elephant. This is a very special award in Denmark.
Becoming a Field Marshal
On January 1, 1666, Ernst Albrecht von Eberstein became a Field Marshal for the Saxon troops. This was the highest military rank. He held this important position until he passed away in 1676.
Family Life
Ernst Albrecht married Ottilie Elisabeth von Ditfurth. They had a large family with 8 sons and 6 daughters. He was also a member of the Fruitbearing Society, which was a group focused on promoting the German language and literature.
