Sir Cyril Errol Melchiades Charles (born December 10, 1942) is an important politician from Saint Lucia. He has served as the Governor-General of Saint Lucia since November 1, 2024. Before this, he was the acting Governor-General for three years. He took on this role after Sir Neville Cenac resigned.

Early Life and Education
Sir Errol Charles was born in Castries, Saint Lucia, on December 10, 1942.
He went to St. Aloysius R.C. Boys' School in Castries. Later, he studied at St. Mary's College in Saint Lucia. He also took courses by mail from Wolsey Hall, England. These courses covered English, Mathematics, History, and Political Science. He even studied the Constitution of the United Kingdom. Sir Errol also learned about income tax law. He completed a special training course in Trinidad and Tobago to examine accounts.
Career Journey
Sir Errol Charles has had a long career in public service and as a consultant.
Government Work (1962–1992)
From 1962 to 1992, Sir Errol worked for the Government of Saint Lucia. He started as a temporary clerk in the Treasury Department. Later, he became a Junior Clerk and then a Senior Income Tax Inspector. He also worked as a Senior Licensing Officer in the Ministry of Communications.
Private Sector and Consulting (1993–2021)
From 1993 to 2007, Sir Errol worked at J.Q. Charles Limited. He was a Human Resources Manager and a Legislative Officer there. In 2007, he started his own business. He worked as a Tax Management Consultant until 2021.
Serving as Governor-General

The Queen of Saint Lucia, Elizabeth II, chose Sir Errol Charles to be the acting Governor-General. He was sworn into this important role on November 11, 2021. The ceremony took place at Government House, Saint Lucia.
When Queen Elizabeth II passed away in September 2022, Sir Errol spoke about her. He said she served Saint Lucia and the Commonwealth with great pride. He also represented Saint Lucia at her state funeral in the United Kingdom. The next year, he attended the Coronation of King Charles III at Westminster Abbey.
On January 23, 2025, the government of Saint Lucia made an announcement. They said that Charles III, the King of Saint Lucia, had officially appointed Sir Errol as Governor-General. This appointment started on November 1, 2024, after he had served as acting Governor-General for three years.
Personal Life
Sir Errol Charles is a Roman Catholic. He can speak both English and French Creole. He is married to Anysia Samuel.
