Sir Cyril Errol Melchiades Charles (born December 10, 1942) is a well-known politician from Saint Lucia. He has served as the Governor-General of Saint Lucia since November 1, 2024. Before this, he was the acting Governor-General for three years, taking over after Sir Neville Cenac resigned.

Early Life and Education
Errol Charles was born on December 10, 1942, in Castries, which is the capital city of Saint Lucia.
He went to St. Aloysius R.C. Boys' School and later to St. Mary's College in Saint Lucia. He also studied by mail through Wolsey Hall in England. There, he learned about English, Mathematics, History, and Political Science. He also completed courses in income tax law and examining accounts in Trinidad and Tobago.
Career Journey
Early Government Work (1962–1992)
From 1962 to 1992, Sir Errol Charles worked in different parts of the Saint Lucia government.
- He started as a temporary clerk in the Treasury Department.
- Later, he worked in the Inland Revenue Department, first as a Junior Clerk and then as a Senior Income Tax Inspector.
- He also served as a Senior Licensing Officer in the Ministry of Communications.
Private Sector and Consulting (1993–2021)
From 1993 to 2007, Charles worked for J.Q. Charles Limited. He was a Human Resources Manager and a Legislative Officer there.
In 2007, he started his own business. He worked as a Tax Management Consultant until 2021.
Becoming Governor-General

The Governor-General is the representative of the King or Queen of the United Kingdom in countries like Saint Lucia. Elizabeth II, who was the Queen of Saint Lucia at the time, appointed Charles as the acting Governor-General. He was sworn into this role on November 11, 2021, at Government House, Saint Lucia.
When Queen Elizabeth II passed away in September 2022, Sir Errol Charles shared his sadness. He said that the Queen had served Saint Lucia with great pride. He also represented Saint Lucia at her state funeral in the United Kingdom. The next year, he attended the Coronation of King Charles III at Westminster Abbey.
On January 23, 2025, the government of Saint Lucia announced that King Charles III had officially appointed Sir Errol Charles as the Governor-General. This appointment became effective on November 1, 2024, after he had served as acting Governor-General for three years.
On March 13, 2025, Sir Errol Charles received a special honor. He was made a Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of St Michael and St George (GCMG) at Buckingham Palace.
Personal Life
Sir Errol Charles is a Roman Catholic. He can speak both English and French Creole.
He is married to Anysia Samuel.
