Erwin W. Lutzer (born October 3, 1941) is a Christian speaker, radio host, and author from Canada. He used to be the main pastor at The Moody Church in Chicago, Illinois, from 1980 to 2016.

Erwin Lutzer's Journey

Erwin Lutzer was born in Saskatchewan, Canada. He became a Christian when he was 14 years old. He studied at the Winnipeg Bible Institute and later earned a Master's degree in Philosophy.

He worked as a senior pastor at Edgewater Baptist Church in Chicago from 1971 to 1977. Later, he received two special honorary doctorates.

Leading The Moody Church

In January 1980, Erwin Lutzer became the 16th senior pastor of The Moody Church in Chicago. Under his leadership, the church and its activities grew a lot. They even built a new Christian Life Center.

On May 22, 2016, Pastor Lutzer preached his last sermon as the senior pastor. He then became the church's "Pastor Emeritus". This means he still has a special connection to the church. He planned to continue his radio show, speak at events, and write books.

Pastor Lutzer is well-known for his work in media, especially on radio and television.

Radio and Television Shows

Pastor Lutzer is the main speaker on two radio shows from Moody Church Media: "Songs in the Night" (since 1980) and "Running to Win" (since 1998). For many years, he also hosted the "Moody Church Hour."

These shows are heard on many radio stations across the U.S. and streamed online worldwide. "Running To Win" is even broadcast in over 50 countries and 7 languages.

In 2018, his TV show A Call for Freedom won three regional Emmy Awards. This show explored the history of the Protestant Reformation.

Pastor Lutzer also travels to speak at churches and conferences around the world.

As an Author

Erwin Lutzer has written more than 70 books. Some of his famous books include Hitler’s Cross, which won an award, and One Minute After You Die.

He also wrote The Da Vinci Deception. This book looked at the popular novel The Da Vinci Code and was talked about on TV and radio.

Erwin Lutzer lives in the Chicago area with his wife, Rebecca. They have three adult children.
