Erwin W. Lutzer (born October 3, 1941) is a Canadian-born Christian speaker, radio host, and author. For many years, he was the main pastor at The Moody Church in Chicago, Illinois. Today, he is the pastor emeritus, which is an honorary title for a retired pastor.

Early Life and Education
Erwin Lutzer was born in Saskatchewan, Canada. When he was 14, he became a born-again Christian, which means he made a personal commitment to his faith.
He went to college to study the Bible and later earned advanced degrees. He received a Master of Theology degree from Dallas Theological Seminary in 1967. He also earned a Master of Arts degree in Philosophy from Loyola University Chicago.
Career as a Pastor
From 1971 to 1977, Lutzer was the senior pastor at Edgewater Baptist Church in Chicago.
The Moody Church
In January 1980, Lutzer became the 16th senior pastor of The Moody Church, a famous church in Chicago. He led the church for 36 years. Under his leadership, the church grew and even built a new Christian Life Center.
On January 4, 2016, Lutzer announced he would retire as senior pastor. He officially stepped down on May 22, 2016. He now holds the title of Pastor Emeritus. This allows him to focus on his radio show, writing books, and speaking at events around the world.

Radio and TV
Pastor Lutzer is a well-known voice on Christian radio. He is the main speaker on two radio shows: "Songs in the Night" and "Running to Win." For many years, he also hosted the "Moody Church Hour." His shows are heard on many radio stations across the United States and online. "Running To Win" is also broadcast in over 50 countries and in 7 different languages.
In 2018, a TV show he created called A Call for Freedom won three regional Emmy Awards. The show was filmed in Germany and tells the story of the Protestant Reformation and Martin Luther.
Lutzer continues to speak at conferences and churches internationally.
Writing Books
Lutzer has written more than 70 books. His book Hitler’s Cross won a Gold Medallion award. Two of his bestselling books are We Will Not Be Silenced and One Minute After You Die.
He also wrote a book called The Da Vinci Deception. It was a response to the very popular novel The Da Vinci Code.
Personal Life
Erwin Lutzer and his wife, Rebecca, live near Chicago. They have three grown children.
