Erwin Waldner spent many years playing for different football clubs. He was well-known for his time at VfB Stuttgart in Germany. He played there from 1952 to 1960. During this time, he played in 214 games and scored 85 goals.
In the early 1960s, Erwin was one of the few West German players who went to play football in other countries. He played for FC Zürich in Switzerland from 1960 to 1961. There, he played 26 games and scored 27 goals. After that, he moved to Italy to play for Real SPAL from 1961 to 1963.
