The Escalante River (which is Rio Escalante in Spanish) is a river found in Venezuela, a country in South America. This river is important because it flows into Lake Maracaibo, one of the largest lakes in South America.

The Escalante River starts its journey high up in the Venezuelan Andes mountains. These mountains are a part of the Andes mountain range, which is the longest continental mountain range in the world.

After leaving the mountains, the river travels through an area called the Maracaibo dry forests ecoregion. An ecoregion is a large area of land or water that has its own unique plants, animals, and climate. The Maracaibo dry forests are known for their specific types of trees and wildlife that can handle drier conditions. Finally, the Escalante River empties its water into Lake Maracaibo.
