Esk Island is a small, quiet island that doesn't have anyone living on it. It's part of a group of islands called the Palm Islands in Queensland, Australia. The island's original Aboriginal name is Soopun. It's located close to Falcon Island.
Esk Island, along with nine other islands in the Palm Islands group, is managed by the Aboriginal Shire of Palm Island. This is like their local council that helps run things in the area.
What is Esk Island's History?
On September 20, 1941, Esk Island and some nearby small islands were officially set aside as an Aboriginal reserve. This was done to potentially expand the Palm Island Aboriginal Settlement, which was a place where Aboriginal people lived. However, Esk Island itself was never actually used for this purpose.
