Esmée Denters (born September 28, 1988) is a singer and YouTuber from the Netherlands. She became famous by sharing her music online in 2006. She sang cover songs by artists like Justin Timberlake. Justin Timberlake was so impressed that he signed her to his record label, Tennman Records.

In May 2009, Esmée released her first album, Outta Here. She even toured the United States with Justin Timberlake. Later, she moved to London and competed on the TV show The Voice UK. She has also released two EPs (shorter albums) called These Days (2017) and Past, Present, Future (2020).

Early Life and Education

Esmée Denters was born in Arnhem, a city in the Netherlands. She lived in Westervoort until she was fifteen. Then, her family moved to Oosterbeek, another town in the Netherlands.

She finished high school in Arnhem in 2006. After that, she started studying for a degree in Social Work. However, she left college in 2007 to join Tennman Records. This was a big step in her music career.

Music Career Highlights

Starting on YouTube: 2006–2008

On August 25, 2006, Esmée Denters created her YouTube channel. She began posting videos of herself singing popular songs. These were called "covers." Her videos quickly gained a lot of attention.

Soon, she traveled to the United States to write and record her own songs. She even sang a song written by Kelly Rowland from Destiny's Child. In 2008, her talent caught the eye of Dutch media and the famous American singer Justin Timberlake.

Justin Timberlake decided to sign Esmée as the very first artist on his new record label, Tennman Records. He also helped produce her first album, Outta Here. Esmée even appeared on popular TV shows like Oprah.

In April 2009, Esmée announced that her first album, Outta Here, would be released. It was a mix of Pop and R&B songs, with both slow ballads and upbeat tracks. Her first song, also called "Outta Here", became very popular in the Netherlands.

The album was released in the UK in January 2010. It included a special bonus song, "Follow My Lead," which she sang with Justin Timberlake. Esmée also toured with other artists like Honor Society.

During this time, Esmée worked with many other musicians. She performed on tour with Ne-Yo, Enrique Iglesias, and N-Dubz. She also sang on the German band Stanfour's song "Life Without You." In the UK, she worked with British rapper Chipmunk on his hit song "Until You Were Gone."

Esmée won several awards for her music. She received an MTV Europe Music Award in 2009. In 2010, she won the European Border Breakers Award for her album Outta Here.

New Music and The Voice UK: 2011–Present

Esmée started working on new songs for her second album in 2011. She collaborated with British DJ K-Gee and musician Ben Cullum. However, in 2012, she left Tennman Records.

After leaving the label, Esmée continued to make music. In 2012, she worked with Dutch DJ Erik Arbores on a song for the Dance4Life charity event. She performed this song live in Rotterdam.

In 2014, Esmée returned to the stage in London. She sang her old hit "Outta Here" and introduced new songs. She also performed covers of popular songs by artists like Lorde and Drake. Later that year, she released her first independent song, "If I Could I Would."

In 2015, Esmée appeared on BBC One's The Voice UK. She joined will.i.am's team but was eliminated later in the competition.

Since then, Esmée has continued to release new music independently. In 2017, she worked with Shaun Reynolds to release a 5-song EP called These Days. In 2020, she released another 3-song EP, Past, Present, Future. This EP was created remotely during the UK lockdown. It features songs about different stages of a romantic relationship.
