The Story of Espresso Vivace
How It All Started
Espresso Vivace was started in 1988 by David C. Schomer and Geneva Sullivan. David used to be an engineer at Boeing, and Geneva worked with large computers. They began their coffee business with a small coffee cart. This cart was located at 5th and Union in Seattle. They mostly served people who worked in finance.
Growing the Business
Later, David and Geneva opened a second coffee stand. This one was covered and faced the street. It was near a grocery store in the Capitol Hill neighborhood. After that, they opened a bigger cafe that also had a roastery. A roastery is where coffee beans are roasted to bring out their flavor. This larger cafe was on South Broadway, also in Capitol Hill.
A New Location
Eventually, Espresso Vivace had to move from its Broadway location. This was because a new light rail station, the Capitol Hill station, was being built there. They chose a new spot about five blocks north. This new area had many nice homes. David Schomer found that customers in this new location really appreciated their special coffee. He said these customers often became very loyal to their favorite coffee spots. David and Geneva continued to work together on their business even after their personal relationship changed.
