Esteban Efraín Paredes Quintanilla (born 1 August 1980) is a famous Chilean former professional football player. He was known for playing as a forward, which means he was a goal scorer for his team.

Esteban Paredes is a true legend in Chilean football. He is the first player ever to be the top goal scorer in the Primera División de Chile five times! He scored an amazing 217 goals in Chile's top league. This made him the all-time leading scorer in the history of Chilean first-tier tournaments. On October 5, 2019, he broke this record during a big match called the Chilean Superclásico.

Esteban Paredes' Club Journey

Esteban Paredes started his football journey in the youth teams of Santiago Morning in 1996. By 2000, he was playing for their main team. He also played for other teams on loan, like Deportes Puerto Montt and C.D. Cobreloa, gaining lots of experience.

In 2009, he joined one of Chile's biggest clubs, Colo-Colo. He quickly became a very important player for them. That same year, he helped Colo-Colo win the Torneo Clausura, which is a major championship. He even scored two goals in the final game!

After playing for several other clubs, including Atlante and Querétaro in Mexico, Paredes returned to Colo-Colo in 2014. He continued to score many goals and help his team win more titles. He played for Colo-Colo until 2021.

In May 2022, after a long and successful career, Esteban Paredes announced he was retiring from professional football. However, he briefly returned to play for San Antonio Unido in 2023 and then for his first club, Santiago Morning, in 2024, before finally retiring for good.

Playing for Chile: International Career

Esteban Paredes also proudly represented his home country, Chile, on the international stage. He played in two World Cups: in 2010 and 2014. These are the biggest football tournaments in the world!

He also played in the 2011 Copa América, which is a major tournament for South American national teams. Throughout his international career, he scored 12 goals for Chile.

Life After Playing Football

Even after retiring from playing, Esteban Paredes stayed involved in football. In February 2024, he became the sport manager for Santiago Morning, the club where he started his career. This means he helps manage the team from behind the scenes.

In December 2024, he also graduated as a football manager. This shows he wants to continue contributing to the sport he loves, perhaps by coaching a team in the future.

Esteban Paredes also has a son, Esteban Paredes Lastra, who is following in his footsteps and playing football in youth teams. He has also appeared on a cooking and talk show called Sabor a Gol and is involved with a sports betting app.
