The 2011 Copa América was a big football tournament. It was the 43rd time the Copa América was held. CONMEBOL organized the event. CONMEBOL is the main football group in South America. The tournament took place in Argentina. It ran from July 1 to July 24, 2011.

Uruguay won the tournament. They beat Paraguay in the final game. Paraguay made it to the final without winning any of their previous matches. Because Uruguay won, they got to play in the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup. Peru finished in third place. They won their match against Venezuela.

Teams in the Tournament

Twelve teams played in the 2011 Copa América. Two teams, Japan and Mexico, were invited from outside South America.

Mexico was only allowed to send their Under-23 Olympic Team. This was due to some rules from UEFA.

Japan first said they would play. They changed their mind because of the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami. They worried the games would clash with their local league matches. Later, Japan decided to play again. They planned to send players who played in Europe. But European clubs did not want to let their players go. So, Japan finally pulled out of the tournament.

After Japan left, CONMEBOL invited Costa Rica. Costa Rica accepted the invitation.

Here are all the teams that played:
