Early Life and Childhood
Carlos Tevez was born Carlos Alberto Martínez in Ciudadela, Argentina. He grew up in a neighborhood known as "Fuerte Apache", which is how he got his nickname "El Apache". He was adopted by his mother's sister and her husband, who changed his last name to Tévez.
When he was a child, Tevez was accidentally burned by boiling water. This caused a noticeable scar on his neck and chest. He spent almost two months in the hospital. Later, when he joined Boca Juniors, the club offered to help him get surgery to improve the scars. However, Tevez chose not to, saying the scars were a part of his past and who he is today.

In 2005, he led Corinthians to win the Brazilian league title. He scored 20 goals that season and was named the league's best player, which was a special achievement for a non-Brazilian player.
Time in England: West Ham United
In August 2006, Tevez joined West Ham United in England. He made his debut in September. After a tough start, Tevez began to show his skills. He scored his first goal for West Ham in March 2007.
In April 2007, Tevez was named West Ham's "Hammer of the Year" for being their best player. In the last game of the season, he scored the only goal in a 1–0 win against Manchester United. This important goal helped West Ham stay in the top league, the Premier League.

Player Profile
How Carlos Tevez Played

He was also good at dribbling the ball past defenders and had a powerful shot from far away. He was also good at taking penalty kicks and free kicks.
Goal Celebrations
Tevez was famous for his dancing goal celebrations, especially when he played for Boca Juniors and Corinthians. When he was at Manchester United, he would sometimes put a baby's pacifier in his mouth after scoring a goal. This was a special way to remember his baby daughter. After he moved to Manchester City, he often did a dance where he put his hands together, bent down, and rocked his body. This dance became known as the "Tevez Dance"!
