Frederico Chaves Guedes (born October 3, 1983), known as Fred, is a Brazilian former professional footballer. He played as a striker, which means he was a forward player whose main job was to score goals.
Fred started his career at América Mineiro in Brazil. Later, he moved to Cruzeiro before joining Lyon in France. With Lyon, he won three French league titles in a row. He then played for Fluminense for many years, winning two Brazilian league titles. He also played for Atlético Mineiro and returned to Cruzeiro and Fluminense before retiring in 2022.
Fred was also a key player for the Brazilian national team. He played in the 2006 and 2014 World Cups. He helped Brazil win the 2007 Copa América and the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup. He is known as one of the top goal scorers in Brazilian football history.

Fred's Club Career Highlights
Starting in Brazil
Fred began his professional journey at América Mineiro. He quickly showed his talent for scoring goals. In 2004, he moved to Cruzeiro, another big club in Brazil.
He was very successful at Cruzeiro, scoring 41 goals in 43 games during the 2005 season. This amazing performance caught the eye of European clubs.
Playing for Lyon in France
In 2005, Fred joined Lyon, a top team in France. He scored 14 goals in his first season (2005–06), helping Lyon win the French league title. He was the second-highest goal scorer in the league that year.
Fred continued to be a key player for Lyon. Even though he missed some games due to injury, he scored 11 goals in the 2006–07 season. Lyon won the league title again, and Fred was their top scorer. He even scored a memorable goal against Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League.
He won his third straight league title with Lyon in the 2007–08 season. After playing for Lyon for several years, he decided to return to Brazil in 2009.
Returning to Fluminense
After leaving Lyon, Fred signed with Fluminense in Brazil. He made a fantastic debut, scoring two goals in his first game. He quickly became a leader for the team.
In 2010, Fred led Fluminense to win the Brazilian Série A title. He continued his great form, scoring many goals. In 2012, he scored two goals in a crucial match, helping Fluminense win the Série A title again. He was also the league's top scorer and best player that year.
Fred is the second-highest goal scorer in Fluminense's history, with 199 goals. He is also the second-highest goal scorer ever in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A with 158 goals.
Time at Atlético Mineiro and Cruzeiro
In 2016, Fred joined Atlético Mineiro. He continued to score goals, becoming the top goal scorer in the 2016 Campeonato Brasileiro Série A with 14 goals. This was the third time he achieved this, a record shared with other Brazilian legends.
In 2018, Fred returned to Cruzeiro, the club he played for earlier in his career. He helped them win the Copa do Brasil and two state championships.
Final Years at Fluminense
Fred rejoined Fluminense in 2020 for his final years as a professional player. He announced his retirement in April 2022 due to health issues. A great moment before he retired was winning the 2022 Campeonato Carioca with Fluminense.
He scored his last goal for Fluminense on July 2, 2022, in a 4-0 win against Corinthians. A week later, he played his very last match, ending his amazing career.
Fred's International Career for Brazil
Fred made his first appearance for the Brazilian national team in 2005. He scored his first two international goals in a friendly match against the United Arab Emirates.
World Cup Appearances
He was part of Brazil's squad for the 2006 FIFA World Cup. He scored a goal against Australia, helping Brazil advance to the next round.
