Figueirense Futebol Clube, often called Figueirense, is a professional football club from Florianópolis, Santa Catarina, Brazil. It was started on June 12, 1921. The team plays in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série C, which is the third level of Brazilian football. They also compete in the Campeonato Catarinense, the top football league in Santa Catarina state.

Club History
The club began as Figueirense Football Club on June 12, 1921. Its name, Figueirense, means "from Figueira". This refers to the neighborhood where the club is located in Centro.
Figueirense was one of the first clubs to join the Liga Catharinense de Desportos Terrestres. This sports league was formed on April 12, 1923. In 1932, the team won its very first state championship. They continued their success by winning the Catarinense championship three times in a row from 1935 to 1937. In 1939, Figueirense won the state championship again. This period is known as the club's "Golden Decade".
After a long wait, Figueirense won the state championship again in 1972. In 1973, Figueirense became the first team from Santa Catarina state to play in the top national league, the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A. They won the Catarinense title once more in 1974.
In 1994, the club ended another long period without a state championship. In 1995, Figueirense won the Torneio Mercosul in Santa Catarina. This was the club's first and only international title.
In 2001, the club finished second in the Brazilian Second Division. This success allowed them to be promoted to the First Division for the next year. From 2002 to 2004, Figueirense won the Campeonato Catarinense three times in a row. In 2008, the youth team won the Copa São Paulo de Juniores for the first time. They beat Rio Branco-SP 2–0 in the final match. In 2008, the main team finished 17th in Serie A and was moved down to Serie B the following year.
Some famous players have played for Figueirense. These include Edmundo, Loco Abreu, André Santos, Roberto Firmino, Filipe Luís, Cleiton Xavier, Felipe Santana, and Michel Bastos.

Club Mascots
From 2002 to 2011, Figueirense's mascot was a friendly fig tree character. Its name was Figueirinha, which means "Little Fig Tree". Since 2012, the mascot has been a cyclone-shaped creature. It wears the team's home uniform and is named Furacão, meaning "Hurricane". This name comes from one of the team's nicknames.
