Estebanía is a small, friendly town in the Dominican Republic. It's located in the Azua Province, not far from the city of Azua de Compostela. You can reach it in about 10 minutes by car! The town is also close to another area called Las Charcas. Estebanía covers an area of about 187 square kilometers.
History of Estebanía
Estebanía has grown quite a bit over the years. In 1997, it became a special district of Azua de Compostela. This was an important step! Just a few years later, in 2001, Estebanía was officially made its own municipality within the Azua province. This means it became a self-governing town.
Economy and Daily Life
The main way people in Estebanía make a living is through agriculture. This means many people work as farmers, growing crops. The town's economy is also getting stronger thanks to help from Dominicans who have moved to the United States.
Many of these people live in big cities like New York City, especially in areas like Washington Heights, the Bronx, and Queens. Others live in nearby places like New Jersey and Long Island. You can also find them in cities like Miami and Boston. These emigrants send money back home, which helps their families and the town grow.
In Estebanía, men often work as farmers. Women traditionally take care of the home as housewives. However, women from families that need more income also work outside the house. They might sell fresh produce (fruits and vegetables) or work as maids in other people's homes.
Sports and Fun in Estebanía
Just like in many other towns across the Dominican Republic, baseball is a super popular sport in Estebanía! It's a favorite pastime for many people. Kids in the town love to play baseball at the local field. They play with their friends, or as part of a team, showing off their skills and having a great time.
