Esther Harriet Borough Johnson (born George) was an English painter. She was born in 1866 and lived until 1958. She is known for her beautiful paintings and for teaching others about art.

Esther Harriet George was born on April 2, 1866. Her birthplace was Sutton Maddock in Shropshire, England. Her father was a clergyman, which means he worked for the church. She had a twin sister named Lydia.
In 1903, Esther married another artist, Ernest Borough Johnson. After they married, she started using the name Esther Borough Johnson for her artwork. She passed away on October 28, 1958, when she was 92 years old. She died in a nursing home in Worcester Park, Surrey.
Her Painting Career
Esther Johnson studied art at several famous schools. She attended the Birmingham School of Art and the Chelsea Art School. She also learned at Hubert von Herkomer's School of Art in Bushey.
During her career, Esther showed her paintings in many important exhibitions. She displayed her work at the Royal Academy of Arts in London. This is a very well-known art institution. She also exhibited with groups like the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours. Her art was shown by the Royal Institute of Oil Painters too. She also showed her work with the Women's International Art Club.
Esther's paintings are kept in several museum collections today. You can find her art at Brighton and Hove Museums and Art Galleries. Her works are also at Bushey Museum & Art Gallery and The Box, Plymouth.
Besides painting, Esther also wrote books about art. In 1931, she published a book called The technique of flower painting in oil, water-colour, and pastel. This book taught people how to paint flowers using different art materials. She also wrote the introduction for a book about drawings by the famous artist Michael Angelo in 1907.
