Early Life and Musical Beginnings
Eteri Andjaparidze was born in Tbilisi, Georgia. Her family was full of musicians. Her father, Zurab Andjaparidze, was a famous singer. He was a leading tenor at the Bolshoi Opera. Eteri's mother, Yvetta Bachtadze, was a pianist. She gave Eteri her very first piano lessons.
Eteri started playing piano at a young age. When she was just 5 years old, she joined a special music school. This school was for gifted children in Tbilisi. By age 8, she performed as a soloist. She played with the Georgian State Symphony Orchestra. At 9, she gave her first solo concert. Later, she studied at the famous Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatoire.
A World-Class Pianist
Eteri Andjaparidze made history in 1976. She was the first Soviet pianist to win the Grand Prix. This was at the Montreal International Musical Competition. In 1974, she also competed. She was the youngest person at the Tchaikovsky International Competition. She won fourth place there.
She has performed all over the world. Eteri plays solo concerts and with other musicians. She has also played with many major orchestras. Her concerts include all kinds of piano music.
