About Ethen Roberts
Ethen grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah, a great place for action sports. His family was very active and loved extreme sports. His mom was a professional gymnast, and his uncle, Gregg Godfrey, was an action sports pioneer. Ethen often says his family was "practically born backflipping dirtbikes and snowboards."
Early Life and Family
Ethen started riding motorcycles when he was only three years old! He also got into BMX racing. But soon, he realized he loved doing tricks more than racing. "I loved racing," Ethen said, "but I loved jumping more." He was one of the youngest riders to backflip a motorbike, doing it when he was just 14.
When Ethen was 19, he took a two-year break from action sports. He went to Argentina for his church mission. He didn't ride anything during that time, focusing completely on his mission until he was 21. Later, on January 5, 2020, Ethen and his wife, Heather, welcomed their second child, a boy named York.
Ethen's Amazing Career
Ethen has brought many cool tricks from FMX (Freestyle Motocross) to mountain biking. These include the scorpion double backflip and the backflip double grab superman. He started competing in 2013 and quickly became famous for his tsunami double backflip.
Pioneering New Tricks
Ethen became a world-class mountain biker in 2014. That year, he and fellow rider Gavin Godfrey made history by landing the first-ever MTB triple backflips. Later in 2014, Roberts also landed the first-ever Superman Double Backflip. This amazing trick earned him a nomination for an ESPN Sport Science Newton Award.
Adventures and Competitions
In 2017, Ethen was part of a Nitro Circus TV show called Off the Grid. He, his brother, and other Godfrey family members showed off incredible FMX and MTB tricks. They pushed the limits on the famous Red Bull Rampage mountain in Virgin, Utah. Ethen later tried to compete in the Red Bull Rampage event but did not qualify for the main competition.
In 2018, Ethen competed in the very first Snow Bike Best Trick event at the X-Games Aspen. He is known for mixing his mountain biking and FMX styles during competitions, which makes his performances unique.
Commercials and Collaborations
In 2019, Ethen was featured in a commercial for Giant Bicycles. In the ad, he tried a daring "caveman jump" out of a helicopter with his mountain bike. He then continued riding down a mountain. This short video became very popular on social media.
In 2020, Ethen filmed several commercials, including one for Zero Motorcycles. He also appeared in a commercial for Toyota USA later that year. In January 2022, Ethen Roberts teamed up with the Diesel Brothers for Jake Paul’s birthday party. Ethen performed some incredible tricks on his Snowbike at the event, which was shown on their TV show.
