Etholen is a fascinating ghost town located in Hudspeth County, Texas, in the United States. A ghost town is a place where most or all people have left, leaving behind empty buildings. Etholen is thought to be about four miles west of a town called Sierra Blanca.
History of Etholen
It's a bit of a mystery exactly when Etholen started, but most people agree it was sometime in the 1880s. Etholen never grew into a big town. It was mainly a small train station along the Southern Pacific Railroad line.
Why Etholen Became a Ghost Town
By the middle of the 1900s, fewer than 25 people lived in Etholen. Because so few people lived there, the town slowly faded away. By the 1960s, Etholen was no longer shown on maps. Today, it remains a quiet reminder of a time when trains were a main way to travel and transport goods.
