Eugen Sacharias (born 21 April 1906 in Berlin, Germany; died 13 March 2002 in Adelaide, Australia) was an Estonian architect. He studied architecture at the Czech Technical University in Prague from 1925 to 1931. After finishing his studies, he moved to Tallinn, the capital of Estonia. There, he became one of the most important designers of modern homes and buildings.

Eugen Sacharias: A Creative Architect

Eugen Sacharias was known for his unique building designs. In the early 1930s, his work followed the simple rules of functionalistic architecture. This style focused on making buildings practical and useful. Later in the decade, his designs started to show more influence from Art Deco. This style added more decorative and stylish elements to his buildings.

Sacharias designed many different types of buildings. He created small villas (fancy houses), large apartment buildings, and even a few small churches. His work helped shape the look of modern Tallinn.

Life During Difficult Times

In 1941, Eugen Sacharias had to leave Estonia. He moved because of political unrest and difficult times in the region. He spent the next eight years in Germany, living in places like Werneck and Berlin. During this time, he continued to work as an architect.

In January 1945, he and his family had to move again to escape approaching troops. They returned to Werneck, where they lived until 1949.

New Beginnings in Australia

In 1949, Eugen Sacharias made a big move to Adelaide, Australia. There, he successfully started his own architecture business. He continued his career as an architect, designing buildings in his new home country.
