She was also the first gymnast to perform two layout stepout jumps in a row.

Eugenia helped her team win several important medals. These included an Olympic silver medal, a world championship gold medal, and another world silver medal. She was good at all gymnastics events. However, she was especially strong in vault and floor exercises. She won a silver medal on vault at the World Championships. She also earned a bronze medal on vault and a silver medal on beam at the European Championships.

Gymnastics Journey

Early Training

Eugenia Golea started her gymnastics training at School Club N 2 in Bucharest. Her first coaches were Lucia Marcu and Mihai Demetrescu. Later, she joined the national team in Deva. There, she trained with coaches Adrian Gorean, Adrian Stan, and Maria Cosma.

First Competitions

Eugenia began competing as a senior gymnast in 1984. She did very well at the 1984 Balkan Championships. Her team won first place, and she finished third in the all-around competition. Even with this great performance, she was not chosen for the 1984 Olympic team.

World Championships Success

In 1985, Eugenia was part of the Romanian team that won a silver medal. This was at the World Championships held in Montreal.

Two years later, in 1987, Eugenia achieved a major victory. She and her teammates won the gold medal at the 1987 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. This event took place in Rotterdam, Netherlands. Her teammates included famous gymnasts like Aurelia Dobre and Daniela Silivaș. During the team finals, both Aurelia Dobre and Eugenia Golea scored perfect 10s on the vault. Eugenia was also one of the first gymnasts to perform the double twisting Yurchenko vault at the World Championships that year. She also won an individual silver medal on vault, coming in second to Elena Shushunova.

European Medals and Retirement

Eugenia continued her success at the 1987 European Championships in Moscow. She won two more individual medals there. She earned a silver medal on the balance beam and a bronze medal on the vault. After winning a silver medal with her team at the 1988 Summer Olympics, Eugenia Golea decided to retire from gymnastics.

Life After Gymnastics

After she stopped competing, Eugenia joined her brother in a circus act. They performed acrobatics together. In 1991, she moved to Puerto Rico. There, she continued to work with a circus. She also helped coach the Puerto Rican gymnastics team. Later, Eugenia moved to the United States. She became a gymnastics coach and helped choreograph routines for gymnasts. She coached at American Gymnastics in Bedford Hills, New York, and at the YWCA in White Plains, New York.
