Aurelia Dobre (born November 16, 1972) is a former artistic gymnast from Romania. She became the 1987 world all-around champion. This means she was the best gymnast across all events at the World Championships that year.

At the 1987 World Championships, Aurelia also won a gold medal on the balance beam. She earned bronze medals for her performances on the vault and floor exercise. She even scored five perfect 10s during these championships!

Aurelia Dobre was also part of the Romanian team that won silver medals. They earned these at the 1988 Summer Olympics and the 1989 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. Her gymnastics career ended early due to injuries and a sudden growth spurt.

For many years, people thought Aurelia was the youngest world all-around champion ever. She won her title when she was 14 years and 352 days old. However, later it was discovered that another gymnast, Olga Bicherova, was actually 13 when she won her title in 1981.

Life After Gymnastics

Aurelia Dobre received a special award from the Romanian Gymnastics Federation. This was during their 100-year anniversary celebration. She was officially recognized for being one of the Romanian gymnasts who scored a perfect 10. In May 2016, she was honored by being added to the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame.

In 1991, Aurelia moved to the United States. The next year, in 1992, she married Boz Mofid, who is a gymnastics coach from Iran. They have four sons. Their sons, Cyrus, Darius, and twins Lucas and Marcus, are well-known on YouTube.

Aurelia used to work as a choreographer and dance coach. She taught at the Dobre Gymnastics Academy in Maryland. She retired from this role in 2020 and closed the gym.
