History of Eunola
Eunola was first listed as a town in the 1900 U.S. Census. After that, it wasn't on the census records again until 1940.
In 2007, Eunola stopped being an official town. This happened because it hadn't held elections for over 50 years. Also, Alabama state law says a town needs at least 300 residents to be officially recognized. Eunola did not meet this number.
After losing its town status, Eunola was reclassified. In 2010, it became a census-designated place (CDP). This means it's still a recognized community for counting people, but it doesn't have its own town government.

Why Eunola Lost Its Town Status
Eunola stopped being an official town in August 2007. A judge made this decision. The main reason was that the community had not held elections since 1957. This meant it wasn't operating like a proper town government should.
After this happened, some residents wanted Eunola to become a town again. They started a petition. However, Alabama law states that a community must have at least 300 people to become an incorporated town. Eunola did not meet this population requirement.
For nearly 50 years, leaders in Eunola were chosen informally. They were not elected through official votes. This unusual situation came to light when the community tried to enforce a local rule. This led to a legal challenge, which showed that no elections had been held.
When Eunola lost its town status, all its money and land became the property of Geneva County. Later, between 2007 and 2010, Eunola was officially recognized as a census-designated place for population counting purposes.
