Eurelijus Žukauskas (born August 22, 1973) is a retired professional basketball player from Lithuania. He was very tall, standing at 2.18 meters (7 feet 2 inches) and weighing 118 kilograms (260 pounds). He played in the important center position on the court.
Becoming a Basketball Star
Eurelijus Žukauskas started his professional basketball journey in 1994. He played for many different teams throughout his career.
In 1995, he was chosen by the Seattle SuperSonics in the 1995 NBA draft. This is a special event where NBA teams pick new players. Later, his rights were traded to the Milwaukee Bucks.
He played for several famous European clubs. One of his biggest achievements was winning the EuroLeague championship in 1999 with Žalgiris Kaunas. This is one of the most important basketball competitions in Europe. He also won the Lithuanian League championship three times (1998, 1999, 2008).
Žukauskas also won the FIBA Europe League in 2004 and the Baltic Basketball League twice (2007, 2008). He was known for his strong play as a center. He retired from professional basketball on May 20, 2009.
Playing for Lithuania
Eurelijus Žukauskas was a key player for the Lithuanian national basketball team from 1995 to 2004. He helped his country win several medals in major international tournaments.
- At the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, he won a bronze medal.
- He won another bronze medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney.
- In 2003, he achieved a gold medal at the EuroBasket championship in Sweden.
Life After the Court
After retiring from professional basketball, Eurelijus Žukauskas still stays involved with the sport. He enjoys playing basketball for fun in his hometown of Klaipėda. He also helps out as a judge at the Lithuanian League (LKL) Slam Dunk Contest, where players show off their amazing dunking skills.
