Euryattus bleekeri, also known as Bleeker's jumping spider, is a cool type of spider. It belongs to the jumping spider family, called Salticidae. These spiders are found in many places. You can find them from Sri Lanka all the way to Queensland in Australia. They are known for their amazing jumping skills!

What They Look Like

Bleeker's jumping spiders come in different sizes. The male spiders are smaller than the females. A male is usually about 6 millimeters (mm) long. Female spiders are larger, growing up to 12 mm long.

Adult spiders have a unique look. Their front mouthparts, called chelicerae, are smooth and dark black. Their main body section, the opisthosoma, can be black or orange.

Female spiders have bright orange markings on their opisthosoma. Their colors are not as vivid as the males. Young male spiders often look more orange-brown than adult males. Both male and female spiders have a whitish band. This band goes around the back of their main body (carapace) and the front of their abdomen.

Where They Live and What They Do

Bleeker's jumping spiders are not like other spiders. They do not build webs to catch their food. Instead, they are active hunters!

These spiders build a special home for their eggs. They make a flat, tightly woven egg sac. They usually place this egg sac near their nest. You might find it hidden inside rolled-up leaves.

You can often find these spiders in certain places. They like dense shrubs and tangled vines. They are common in areas near the coast or close to water.

Are They Dangerous?

Many people wonder if spiders are dangerous. For Bleeker's jumping spiders, there's good news! There are no reports of their bites causing serious harm to humans.

If someone does get bitten, it might cause a little pain. You might also see some swelling in that area. But it's usually not a big deal and gets better quickly.
